Standing in Solidarity with Black Lives Matter

Share:

We join today in solidarity and allyship with our Black neighbors, colleagues, partners, and the entire community in expressing our outrage at the unjust killing of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and the many Black lives lost over the years at the hands of people whose job it is to protect them. Black Lives Matter.

We align with all of our community partners who have called out the structural inequities present in our community and who have demanded an end to anti-Black, racist violence. We are saddened that this is where we are today in the year 2020, 56 years after the passage of the Civil Rights Act.

As an affordable housing organization, we know the importance of dismantling racist, exclusionary zoning and financial practices, increasing access to affordable housing, and implementing policies that prevent the displacement of low-income communities and communities of color. We have seen that the COVID-19 pandemic is disproportionately impacting low-income people of color in our community– laying bare long standing economic and health inequalities. We know that this is layered on top of an already unacceptable housing crisis. It is critical that attention be focused on the interconnectedness of housing, health, and racial inequity.

As we move through this difficult time it is our hope that THIS time we see true change. We will work towards this change by following and amplifying the calls to action from movement leaders and community voices. For as long as it takes. For justice and equity. Enough is Enough.

Yours in Community,

The SV@Home Team
