Community Roots Collaborative

Together with 15 local partners, SV@Home formed the Community Roots Collaborative (CRC) in 2024 to spur community-based development in Santa Clara County. Given that there were no Community Development Corporations (CDCs) and one Community Land Trusts (CLT) in our region at the time, SV@Home was prompted to encourage, seed, and expand community development by providing a cohort of community-based organizations in Santa Clara County exposure and education of the existing landscape of affordable housing and community development throughout the Bay Area. SV@Home providedprovides a year-long lesson plan on community-based development, filled with expert speakers and presentations, facilitated discussions and resource-sharing among community leaders, and exciting tours of established CDCs and CLTs.

Community Roots Collaborative’s Current Members:

Today, SV@Home continues its commitment to build the capacity of our community-based nonprofit partners that are interested in or have recently become emerging developers in Santa Clara County. The CRC has evolved into a solutions-based strategic group that meets monthly to create a community of shared learning, collaboration, and action to advance and foster a flourishing environment for community-based development in Silicon Valley. CRC cohort members who are also SV@Home members have the benefit of engaging in an intimate one-on-one strategic consulting service to support their place-based visions of their communities. The CRC cohort continues to benefit from tours of CDCs and CLTs throughout the Bay Area on an annual basis.

New CRC members undergo an orientation process, known as the “Discovery Program” as part of becoming a monthly meeting participant, filled with introductory lessons about how to become a community-based developer.
