Getting Inclusionary Housing Right

JOIN US VIRTUALLY ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24TH 12PM

Cities across Santa Clara County are considering this powerful tool to build more new affordable homes without subsidy.

But done wrong it can fall short, or even stop the development of new homes in its tracks. Learn how it works, and how to get it right!

Many of our local cities are joining forces right now in a shared nexus study, the wonky and in-depth analysis that assesses the feasibility of local residential development and the potential for developers of market-rate housing to add a share of affordable homes to their buildings.

If cities require too few affordable homes or affordability that’s too shallow, they leave public benefits on the table. Too much, and developers can’t build any housing at all.

Come hear about local cities that are getting it right: successfully using inclusionary housing policies to achieve mixed-income communities, generate funding to subsidize deeper levels of affordability, and gain valuable land for affordable homes!

SV@Home Presents September 2022 Policy In Action: Shelter, Interim, and Permanent Housing Solutions to the Needs of the Unhoused in San Jose

Join us Sept. 23 at noon for our monthly Policy In Action @Home series to learn more about the spectrum of housing solutions addressing the needs of unhoused community members in San Jose.

Emergency shelters, interim housing, and permanent supportive housing each play an important role in meeting the needs of community members who are unhoused. As the City of San Jose looks to expand the use of individual “tiny homes” as a solution, we examine how each of these solutions meets critical community needs, and why we can’t forget that we know what works – housing ends homelessness.

Featured Speakers:

  • David Low, Director of Policy and Communications, Destination: Home
  • Ragan Henninger, Deputy Director, City of San Jose Housing Department

SV@Home’s Policy in Action @ Home series (PIA, formerly the Housing Action Coalition or HAC) is a monthly, informal brownbag discussion convening Housers to engage on hot housing topics. Every month, we select a topic or current event, bring in an expert to give a brief presentation, and then open up the discussion to ask questions, float new ideas, and identify potential areas for shared action.

Become a member today and help us expand the coalition of housing advocates to be more inclusive and representative of the communities we serve.
