Join us on March 7th for an engaging discussion with representatives and researchers from other regions of the country who have deployed successful housing first models and strategies to address homelessness.
Travel around the country with us during this workshop session as we’ll dive into lessons learned from other regions to learn about the successes – and challenges – of homeless response systems deployed in Houston, Denver, and the state of Utah. What might Californians learn from these case studies and the methods and policies tested elsewhere? For example, in Houston, the city has reduced its alarmingly high homeless population by 63% since 2011; and since 2012, the Houston model has housed over 26,000 people, with 90% of them remaining housed for two or more years. We’ll learn about some policy takeaways and recommendations for California from Houston’s successes thanks to a new report analyzing these outcomes from a Golden State lens. Next, we’ll learn about Denver’s Supportive Housing Social Impact Bond Initiative and the many outcomes achieved through this financing mechanism. Lastly, we’ll explore changes to the governing structure of Utah’s homelessness service delivery and how clearer leadership may improve upon past successes.
