Affordable housing preservation (acquisition/rehabilitation, or acq/rehab) is a strategy in which mission-driven organizations purchase previously unsubsidized buildings, improve living conditions by rehabilitating properties, and create restricted affordable homes at a relatively low-cost while preventing residential displacement. While acq/rehab is not a new strategy, local jurisdictions in California only started making significant investments into acq/rehab in 2014 and learned many early lessons.
In this virtual event, Enterprise Community Partners will share what some of these important early lessons were, focusing on technical assistance we delivered through our California Public Sector Preservation Cohort to 27 jurisdictions (including 5 in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties) between January 2025 and March 2026. Attendees will learn what important considerations should go into acq/rehab program design, what’s still needed to enable more acq/rehab projects, and how to get plugged into ongoing advocacy efforts.
This event is a part of Affordable Housing Month 2026.
