If cities require too few affordable homes or affordability that’s too shallow, they leave public benefits on the table. Too much, and developers can’t build any housing at all.

Julie Mahowald

CFO and Head of Partnerships & Strategy of Housing Trust Silicon Valley

Julie Mahowald is CFO and Head of Partnerships & Strategy of Housing Trust Silicon Valley since January 2016.  Her responsibilities include strategy and planning, capital structure and capital raise, finance, administration and operations.  She has also served as interim CEO of Housing Trust on two occasions.  Julie drives partnership opportunities and stewardship for Housing Trust.  She is part of the leadership team who established TECH Fund, the Apple Affordable Housing Fund, and Google’s Launch Initiative–each investing funds to start up or preserve of affordable homes within months of establishment.  Her passion is bringing impact capital to community development.  She was named non-profit CFO of the year in 2023 by the SF Business Times and Larkin Street Youth Services.

Julie brings over 30 years of corporate finance, treasury management, and strategy experience in high growth tech firms such as Oracle, Maxtor, Celestica, and various Silicon Valley start-ups.  Julie’s roles included raising capital from banks and venture firms, international finance, and guiding an initial public offering.  Julie also has extensive non-profit management experience.  She served on the board of the Los Altos Community Foundation for 7 years and is a past co-Chair.   Julie was a long-time board member of East Palo Alto Kids Foundation.  Julie earned her BA in Economics from Tulane University and an MBA in Finance and MA in International Studies from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania where she was a Fellow with the Lauder Institute of Management and International Studies.
