On July 17th, Milpitas celebrated a major achievement with the grand opening of Sango Court, a new affordable housing community at 355 Sango Court. Organized by the developer and owner of this residential community, Resources for Community Development (RCD), the event was attended by key supporters, including Housing Trust Silicon Valley, which funded the project through their Apple Affordable Housing Fund. Local government officials also attended the event as crucial partners in creating this community, emphasizing the significance of innovative financing initiatives like the resources provided by Apple through the Housing Trust Silicon Valley.

Sango Court adds 102 affordable family apartments to Milpitas’ housing stock. The development offers a mix of units for low- and moderate-income families, including designated units for those transitioning from homelessness. Residents will benefit from amenities like a community room, landscaped courtyards, and on-site supportive services. Notably, the project employed modular construction techniques, which significantly cut down both construction costs and time without compromising quality. Combined with its all-electric design, Sango Court is strongly committed to sustainability, integrating green building practices and renewable technologies to promote long-term affordability and environmentalism.

While the grand opening of Sango Court marks a significant milestone, it also highlights the ongoing need for housing in the City of Milpitas, illustrated by the city’s housing element mandate of constructing 7,028 new units by 2031. To meet this ambitious target, Milpitas must actively support and promote more affordable housing projects like Sango Court. The upcoming regional housing bond (RM4) on the November ballot presents an opportunity for further support. If passed, RM4 will provide significant funding to develop more affordable housing units across the Bay Area. This unified effort to expand affordable housing is crucial for ensuring all residents have access to affordable and quality homes, helping Milpitas and other Bay Area cities meet their housing goals and create inclusive communities.
