Catalyst Housing Group (“Catalyst”) has pioneered an innovative financing solution focused on the production, preservation and protection of middle-income housing. Our Essential Housing model provides desperately needed affordability to California’s “missing middle” – the essential workforce who often earns in excess of traditional affordable housing limits yet not enough to reside sustainably within the communities they serve.
Since collaborating on the 2019 formation of the California Community Housing Agency (“CalCHA”), California’s first public agency focused exclusively on middle-income housing production, Catalyst and CalCHA have partnered to acquire ~2,800 market-rate rental communities that are now perpetually rent-restricted to essential, middle-income households.
