Funding for Homeless Programs

The City of San José is thrilled to be the recipient of new funding from the State of California. The Homeless Emergency Aid Program (HEAP) is a $500 million block grant designed to provide direct assistance to cities and counties to address the homelessness crisis throughout California. HEAP is authorized by Senate Bill (SB) 850, which was signed into law by Governor Brown in June 2018. The City of San José expects to receive over $11 million. Eligible uses for funding are intentionally broad to allow creativity per jurisdiction.

We need the help of our community to gain feedback on how to spend the one-time funds. Please let your voice be heard and join us for a community meeting on August 22, 2018 from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at Roosevelt Community Center (Multipurpose Room). We look forward to hearing your innovative and inventive ideas on what programs should be implemented to end homelessness in San José. Please see the flyer for more information (Spanish and Vietnamese flyers).
