Getting Inclusionary Housing Right

JOIN US VIRTUALLY ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24TH 12PM

Cities across Santa Clara County are considering this powerful tool to build more new affordable homes without subsidy.

But done wrong it can fall short, or even stop the development of new homes in its tracks. Learn how it works, and how to get it right!

Many of our local cities are joining forces right now in a shared nexus study, the wonky and in-depth analysis that assesses the feasibility of local residential development and the potential for developers of market-rate housing to add a share of affordable homes to their buildings.

If cities require too few affordable homes or affordability that’s too shallow, they leave public benefits on the table. Too much, and developers can’t build any housing at all.

Come hear about local cities that are getting it right: successfully using inclusionary housing policies to achieve mixed-income communities, generate funding to subsidize deeper levels of affordability, and gain valuable land for affordable homes!

On December 18th and January 5th, MTC/ABAG staff will hold two identical webinars, both of which will feature staff presentations on the latest updates for Plan Bay Area 2050 and RHNA. This will include a presentation on the Plan Bay Area 2050 Final Blueprint, including the associated Outcomes & Growth Pattern, and a presentation on the Draft RHNA Methodology, highlighting updates made to integrate the Final Blueprint. Following the staff presentations, there will be an opportunity for questions & answers from attendees.

Material related to the Plan Bay Area 2050 Final Blueprint is anticipated to be posted for public review on planbayarea.org in mid-December; material related to the Draft RHNA Methodology is anticipated to be posted for public review on abag.ca.gov, also in mid-December. These items will also be presented to MTC/ABAG committees, as well as the Commission and the ABAG Executive Board, for action in January 2021.

Local jurisdictions and other stakeholders will also be able to set up an office hours appointment from mid-December to mid-January to discuss any specific questions in greater detail. More information on the latest round of office hours, and a sign-up form, will be posted online in mid-December.
