The Housing Needs of Undocumented Residents

JOIN US VIRTUALLY ON FRIDAY, JULY 25TH 12PM

Undocumented immigrants face unique and often invisible barriers to housing—exclusion from federal programs, fear of retaliation, and discriminatory screening practices.

Join us for a timely conversation on how we can break down these barriers and advance housing solutions that include everyone—regardless of immigration status.

We’ll explore:
– Why undocumented immigrants are excluded from key housing programs
– How fear and discrimination drive housing instability
– Local policies and community-based models creating real change

Can eliminating single-family zoning advance equity in California cities? Following the lead of Minneapolis and Portland, Ore., Sacramento, California led the state in reforming exclusionary zoning laws by legalizing multifamily housing across the city. On February 24th, Berkeley resolved to do the same, followed by movements in San Jose, South San Francisco, and now Oakland. Momentum is growing to advance equity in local zoning policies!

Join East Bay Young Democrats and our co-sponsors, on Wednesday March 24th, for a panel with Bay Area policy leaders to discuss how we got here and what barriers to equity in zoning lay ahead.

Panelists:
Berkeley Vice Mayor Lori Droste
Oakland Vice Mayor Rebecca Kaplan
Berkeley Councilmember Terry Taplin
Oakland Councilmember Loren Taylor

Moderator:
SPUR Oakland Director Ronak Davé Okoye
