There are almost 380,000 affordable homes across California funded by the Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC). These affordable homes provide safe, affordable and stable homes but tenants have limited tenant protections. While LIHTC provides a vague standard that households can only be evicted for “good cause,” these developments are exempt from many other tenants’ rights laws, such as the California Tenant Protection Act (AB 1482). Panelists from tenant advocacy organization and nonprofit affordable housing developers will discuss where things currently stand, what that has meant for tenants, and what can be done to improve the experience of affordable housing tenants across California.

Speakers:
Marcos Segura – Staff Attorney, National Housing Law Project
Shanti Singh – Communications and Legislative Director, Tenants Together
Barbara Crain – Area Director of Property Management Group, Mercy Housing Management Group

Moderator:
William Wilcox – Tax-Exempt Bond Program Manager, San Francisco Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development
