Interim shelter units, sometimes called interim temporary housing or emergency interim housing, are a shelter innovation that plays an important role in the continuum of response to homelessness. The City of San Jose has been a leader in building and operating interim shelter sites. As all of our communities are experiencing a homelessness crisis, a symptom of an overwhelming shortage of homes people can afford, what can we learn from the success, costs, and challenges of San Jose’s interim shelter model?
Featuring Ragan Henninger, Deputy Director of San Jose’s Housing Department.
SV@Home’s Policy in Action @ Home series (PIA) is a monthly, informal discussion convening Housers to engage on hot housing topics. Every month, we select a topic or current event, bring in an expert to give a brief presentation or interview, and then open up the discussion to ask questions, float new ideas, and identify potential areas for shared action.
SV@Home strives to host inclusive, accessible events that enable all individuals, including individuals with disabilities, to engage fully. To request an accommodation or for inquiries about accessibility, please email cesia@siliconvalleyathome.org
