Getting Inclusionary Housing Right

JOIN US VIRTUALLY ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24TH 12PM

Cities across Santa Clara County are considering this powerful tool to build more new affordable homes without subsidy.

But done wrong it can fall short, or even stop the development of new homes in its tracks. Learn how it works, and how to get it right!

Many of our local cities are joining forces right now in a shared nexus study, the wonky and in-depth analysis that assesses the feasibility of local residential development and the potential for developers of market-rate housing to add a share of affordable homes to their buildings.

If cities require too few affordable homes or affordability that’s too shallow, they leave public benefits on the table. Too much, and developers can’t build any housing at all.

Come hear about local cities that are getting it right: successfully using inclusionary housing policies to achieve mixed-income communities, generate funding to subsidize deeper levels of affordability, and gain valuable land for affordable homes!

Join Greenbelt Alliance and SPUR to explore how Moffett Park can be designed as an Eco-Innovation District.

To ensure communities are resilient to a changing climate and inclusive for all to thrive, we must employ innovative development ideas that leverage nature-based solutions. Sunnyvale’s Moffett Park area is poised for this exact type of development, also known as an eco-innovation district. How? Attend this outing to find out!

During this outing, we’ll share a picture with you of what the future could hold for Moffett Park. A future where technology, diverse economic opportunities, access to nature, affordable housing, and nature-based solutions to climate change all come together in one location. We know this sounds like a lot, but we’ll have experts and visual aides to guide us along the way—starting with Moffett Park’s history and walking us through how the area can be transformed into a place that’s inclusive for all and resilient to climate impacts.

This is the second outing of our three-part series in Moffett Park. Over the course of these outings, we hope to bring the community along in a visioning process to explore the climate-smart benefits this currently underutilized part of the city has to offer!
