Getting Inclusionary Housing Right

JOIN US VIRTUALLY ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24TH 12PM

Cities across Santa Clara County are considering this powerful tool to build more new affordable homes without subsidy.

But done wrong it can fall short, or even stop the development of new homes in its tracks. Learn how it works, and how to get it right!

Many of our local cities are joining forces right now in a shared nexus study, the wonky and in-depth analysis that assesses the feasibility of local residential development and the potential for developers of market-rate housing to add a share of affordable homes to their buildings.

If cities require too few affordable homes or affordability that’s too shallow, they leave public benefits on the table. Too much, and developers can’t build any housing at all.

Come hear about local cities that are getting it right: successfully using inclusionary housing policies to achieve mixed-income communities, generate funding to subsidize deeper levels of affordability, and gain valuable land for affordable homes!

Join our expert panel as they look closely at the election’s implications for advancing an inclusive Bay Area.

In wake of our current health, economic and housing crisis, and as people protest for racial justice in cities across the country, we launched The Metro Talks Equity Series—a series where regional thought leaders consider how to best restore the Bay Area with equity as the guiding core value. Join us for a 60-minute session, split between a panel discussion and live Q&A with audience members!

Our fourth forum will explore the implications from the recent elections for advancing a more equitable Bay Area.

Our panelists include:

• Darnell Grisby, Executive Director at TransForm

• Judith Bell, Chief Impact Officer at the San Francisco Foundation

• Alvaro Sanchez, Environmental Equity Director at the Greenlining Institute

• And moderator Rebecca Long, Government Affairs Asst. Director, MTC-ABAG

METRO TALKS EQUITY SERIES Metro Talks is a remote series of public forums to seed and exchange ideas on how the Bay Area can transform for the better. The forums bring together prominent leaders and experts to discuss significant regional issues like housing, community development, climate change, the economy, technology and transportation.
