Where Did the Students Go? Housing & the School Enrollment Crisis

JOIN US VIRTUALLY ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 26TH 12PM

Silicon Valley is becoming too expensive for families and our schools are paying the price. Enrollment is dropping, campuses are closing, and beloved school communities are being torn apart.

At the same time, teachers and staff face grueling commutes from far-away cities, while districts struggle to hire and keep the talent our kids deserve.

Join us for an inside look at SV@Home’s exclusive research on Silicon Valley’s enrollment crisis—and discover how affordable housing can keep families in our neighborhoods and strengthen schools across our region.

RSVP now and join the conversation.

On December 9th, the Palo Alto Planning and Transportation Commission will hold a hearing on draft land use alternatives for the North Ventura Coordinated Area Plan.

SV@Home believes that the North Ventura area represents one of the most important opportunities for the City of Palo Alto to create new housing and affordable housing near transit and accessible to existing retail and jobs. That is why we support at a minimum Staff Land Use Alternative #3, which plans for 2,130 new homes (we would expect at least 20% of them to be affordable) alongside 5.5acres of new open space, 126k sf in new office development, and 22,300 sf in new retail development.

Not only does this staff vision create the most new housing and deed-restricted affordable housing opportunities, it also results in the largest amount of new open space and resources for other key community benefits including the daylighting of Matadero Creek and the potential for a neighborhood community center.

More information will be posted in advance of the meeting on the city’s NVCAP website: https://www.paloaltonvcap.org/
