Getting Inclusionary Housing Right

JOIN US VIRTUALLY ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24TH 12PM

Cities across Santa Clara County are considering this powerful tool to build more new affordable homes without subsidy.

But done wrong it can fall short, or even stop the development of new homes in its tracks. Learn how it works, and how to get it right!

Many of our local cities are joining forces right now in a shared nexus study, the wonky and in-depth analysis that assesses the feasibility of local residential development and the potential for developers of market-rate housing to add a share of affordable homes to their buildings.

If cities require too few affordable homes or affordability that’s too shallow, they leave public benefits on the table. Too much, and developers can’t build any housing at all.

Come hear about local cities that are getting it right: successfully using inclusionary housing policies to achieve mixed-income communities, generate funding to subsidize deeper levels of affordability, and gain valuable land for affordable homes!

With the passage of Measure A in November, there will be a significant effort to approve new developments that provide housing and on site wrap around services to people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Several of these projects are now in the development pipeline– including Renascent Place on Senter Road and Evans Lane Transitional Housing, both in San Jose. Join this tour of developments and an informational panel about Permanent Supportive Housing, what it is, how it looks, how it works.

The tour will begin at Donner Lofts in Downtown San Jose, a mixed-use development that combines workforce efficiency studios and 1-bedroom apartments with ground-floor commercial retail space. Twenty of the 102 units are reserved for the formerly homeless who receive extensive supportive services. Speakers from Destination:Home, PATH Ventures, and Abode Services will be there to make a short presentation and respond to participant questions. Then a bus will take the participants to Sunnyvale to view/tour the new Onizuka Crossing development, with 58 units, 29 of which are reserved for formerly homeless individuals and their families, and Parkside Studios, with 59 units, 18 of which are reserved for the formerly homeless.

Sign up today to attend the event. There will be limited space on the bus, so we encourage early responses
