Getting Inclusionary Housing Right

JOIN US VIRTUALLY ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24TH 12PM

Cities across Santa Clara County are considering this powerful tool to build more new affordable homes without subsidy.

But done wrong it can fall short, or even stop the development of new homes in its tracks. Learn how it works, and how to get it right!

Many of our local cities are joining forces right now in a shared nexus study, the wonky and in-depth analysis that assesses the feasibility of local residential development and the potential for developers of market-rate housing to add a share of affordable homes to their buildings.

If cities require too few affordable homes or affordability that’s too shallow, they leave public benefits on the table. Too much, and developers can’t build any housing at all.

Come hear about local cities that are getting it right: successfully using inclusionary housing policies to achieve mixed-income communities, generate funding to subsidize deeper levels of affordability, and gain valuable land for affordable homes!

Affordable housing providers, their staff, and their residents have rights. With the Trump administration threatening mass deportations and increased immigration enforcement actions across the country, it has become critical for affordable housing providers to know and understand these rights and responsibilities to ensure the safety of their staff and residents. Join us on Tuesday, March 25th at 1:00 PM for a virtual session diving into how affordable housing providers can best prepare for interactions with ICE.

This 90-minute workshop is designed to help empower providers to assert their rights in the event of an Immigration Enforcement visit to their properties or offices. The first portion of this training will give an overview of the specific rights of housing providers and non-profit organizations in regards to ICE. Next, speakers will consider why organizations should have written policies in place regarding ICE interactions, what these policies should state, and how organizations can best implement their policies across staff. The presentation will end with an extended Q&A period and a sharing of additional resources for attendees. Register today for this informative session!

Speakers:

  • Ritu Mahajan Estes — Directing Attorney, Community Development Project, Public Counsel
  • Sophia Wrench —Staff Attorney, Public Counsel
  • Erich Nakano — Executive Director, Little Tokyo Service Center
