Getting Inclusionary Housing Right

Cities across Santa Clara County are considering this powerful tool to build more new affordable homes without subsidy.

But done wrong it can fall short, or even stop the development of new homes in its tracks. Learn how it works, and how to get it right!

Many of our local cities are joining forces right now in a shared nexus study, the wonky and in-depth analysis that assesses the feasibility of local residential development and the potential for developers of market-rate housing to add a share of affordable homes to their buildings.

If cities require too few affordable homes or affordability that’s too shallow, they leave public benefits on the table. Too much, and developers can’t build any housing at all.

Come hear about local cities that are getting it right: successfully using inclusionary housing policies to achieve mixed-income communities, generate funding to subsidize deeper levels of affordability, and gain valuable land for affordable homes!

Silicon Valley Bike Summit 2019

Please join us at the 9th Annual Silicon Valley Bike Summit – our area’s largest gathering of active transportation leaders and organizers – from government, the private sector, non-profits, and the general public.

We are currently working on our program agenda for a fun, engaging and educational day! Below is a rough schedule to give you a sense of how the day is laid out. Here is a more detailed draft schedule.

8:30-9:30 – Registration and light breakfast
9:30-11 – Plenary
11-12:40 – Breakout sessions, demos, and bike tour
12:40-1:40 – Lunch
1:40-3 – Breakout sessions, demos, and bike tour
3-5 – Awards and closing session
5 – 5:15 – Group bike ride to explore Mountain View’s pop up bike lane
5:15 – 8:30 – Thursday Night Live, Downtown Mountain View


Volunteer Opportunities (full for 2019)

Help us make the 2019 Bike Summit a fantastic day! Shifts include bike parking and registration. Volunteers are welcome to attend Summit sessions for free before and/or after your shift!

Bike Project, Programs and People Awards

For the fourth year in a row, SVBC will be presenting awards at the Bike Summit. The awards are not only a way to encourage people to do cool things related to biking, but also to publicize the dedication, time, and energy they are putting in to make things happen!

Transportation to the Summit:

Take an active mode – walk, bike, bus, take transit or carpool.
Free bike valet at the Summit.
*There is not bike valet at Thursday Night Live. Please bring a lock if you choose to lock your bike up at this event.

Bike to the Summit with our Bikepool:
Arrive on the  8:28am train to the Mountain View station  and head to the the penny-farthing bike racks – in the plaza just south of the old depot building that hosts the Savvy Cellar wine bar, an ATM, and a bike cage. Here you’ll find John Brazil and Lola Torney, our ride leaders:).
The group will depart for the Community Center at 8:35am.
