On Monday, January 17, we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We honor Dr. King and his legacy of hope through acknowledging the history of the fight for civil rights and racial equality in this country and through serving others in our community. In recognition that the legacy of racism and injustice still runs deep in our country’s systems, process, and communities, we at SV@Home ask you to consider Dr. King’s words:
“We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of Now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy.”
—”I Have A Dream” speech in Washington, D.C., August 28, 1963
Also, the virtual MLK luncheon, an annual event hosted by the African American Community Service Agency, will take place on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, all are invited.
