Join SV@Home in Reimagining Home During Affordable Housing Month 2022 – Silicon Valley!
What sets Affordable Housing Month 2022 – Silicon Valley apart from previous years? The call for “Reimagining Home.” Out of the 50 scheduled this year, the SV@Home events are designed to rekindle our enthusiasm for our mission by igniting our passion. SV@Home’s new Executive Director, Regina Celestin Williams, describes the Reimagining Home theme this way:
“This is an opportunity to shift the collective perspective on housing solutions and our approach to reaching those solutions, creating more equitable, inclusive, and restorative communities through more inclusive and equitable processes. We have committed to and have challenged our partners to offer out-of-the-box thinking and knowledge enrichment through the slate of events to inspire a vision for Silicon Valley’s future where everyone thrives.”
This special edition of SV@Home’s newsletter is about what to expect during May 2022. First, the focus is on the SV@Home’s exciting events of Affordable Housing Month. Next, we highlight the AHM events addressing the theme of Ending Homelessness, and then we will recognize our sponsors and partners who have provided a robust series of events. Lastly, we will conclude with a peek at AHM events hosted around the region.
But first, we encourage you to look at this jam-packed calendar, dig deeper into the themes that interest you, reserve your seat for the programs, and refresh your commitment to bringing affordable housing to everyone. Every Sunday during May, we will send that week’s events at a glance, along with recordings of past events as they become available.

SV@Home is thrilled to present the following Affordable Housing Month events:

Acclaimed Chef, Author, and Activist Ignites
Passion for Social Change
Producing more affordable housing isn’t easy: Many barriers are seemingly daunting. But Chef Bryant Terry can help us renew our spirit for advocacy by demonstrating the process that inspired his activism for creating a more vibrant, equitable, and healthy food ecosystem. This night award-winning author of four vegan ‘soul food’ cookbooks includes a live, in-person demonstration of how he stirs up political change from the kitchen by using “the visceral to ignite the cerebral and ending with the political.” The event includes a question-and-answer period with Regina Celestin Williams moderating and a signed cookbook giveaway for all attendees!!

HAC is now Policy in Action @Home
This Affordable Housing Month, SV@Home is proud to unveil our newly branded monthly action events as the Policy in Action @Home series. Formerly known as the Housing Action Coalition (HAC), our Policy in Action series gives Santa Clara County housing advocates an opportunity to learn about, and take action on, the latest policy and legislation taking shape at the local, regional, and state levels. Hear from the experts driving this change, learn how these changes may affect affordable housing initiatives, and participate taking action.
In our first Policy in Action discussion, we will share what we have learned about the candidates for the primary election and their views on affordable housing issues. Also, lobbyist Graciela Castillo-Krings of Sacramento Advocates will weigh in on the latest housing related legislation and funding.

AHM Events Strive to End Homelessness
One of the most pressing housing issues in Santa Clara County is the effort to provide permanent homes to our neighbors who are experiencing homelessness. This Affordable Housing Month, there are a wide variety of educational events on several aspects of our homelessness crisis and the solutions that are getting people housed.
Check out the below events for opportunities to learn about the Community Plan to End Homelessness and Measure A, engage with the root causes of homelessness and those with lived experience, and even go on tours of permanent supportive housing developments. There will also be opportunities to get more involved and take action, including by participating in Destination: Home’s Housing Ready Communities network.
We hope you will join us in the County-wide effort to end homelessness and house our unhoused neighbors throughout May:

Thank you to our Sponsors!
Our sponsors want to see changes in the affordable housing landscape to make Silicon Valley a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive place to work, raise a family and thrive. Their generous donations make Affordable Housing Month a reality, helping our local Houser movement activities and be a force for positive change in our communities. Please join SV@Home in expressing our sincere gratitude for all they provide.

Shout Out to SV@Home Partners!
Affordable Housing Month 2022 features 50 events this year thanks to our housing partners, who unite with us to shed light on all facets of this critical issue. These colleagues, associates, friends, community leaders, subject-matter experts, visionaries, and activists are helping re-shape the Silicon Valley landscape to make it a more affordable place to live for everyone. We will spotlight several of our partners throughout the month, to share their contributions to the cause.
Today, we honor the Santa Clara County Housing Authority:
The Santa Clara County Housing Authority assists about 17,000 households through the federal rental housing assistance (Housing Choice Voucher, also known as Section 8). It also develops, controls, and manages affordable rental housing properties. Housing Authority programs and properties are targeted to assist low, very low, and extremely low-income households. More than 80 percent of its client households are extremely low-income families, seniors, veterans, persons with disabilities, and formerly homeless. The Santa Clara County Housing Authority strives to provide housing and support services to many eligible families; working together with landlords, housing developers, charities, and local governments working.
The Housing Authority hosts two exciting events during Affordable Housing Month, RSVP Today!
