Getting Inclusionary Housing Right

JOIN US VIRTUALLY ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24TH 12PM

Cities across Santa Clara County are considering this powerful tool to build more new affordable homes without subsidy.

But done wrong it can fall short, or even stop the development of new homes in its tracks. Learn how it works, and how to get it right!

Many of our local cities are joining forces right now in a shared nexus study, the wonky and in-depth analysis that assesses the feasibility of local residential development and the potential for developers of market-rate housing to add a share of affordable homes to their buildings.

If cities require too few affordable homes or affordability that’s too shallow, they leave public benefits on the table. Too much, and developers can’t build any housing at all.

Come hear about local cities that are getting it right: successfully using inclusionary housing policies to achieve mixed-income communities, generate funding to subsidize deeper levels of affordability, and gain valuable land for affordable homes!

Summer Housing Interns Create Their Visions for Equitable and Resilient Communities

Share:

SV@Home wrapped up its inaugural summer internship with presentations from our interns on their 10-week long projects. We benefitted tremendously from having these young folks in our midst and hope that they gained value from their time with SV@Home in return. We are excited to watch how these two housers will continue to impact the space for years to come!

Our Housing Policy Intern, Maren Bick-Maurischat presents her final project on Community-Owned Property Options to address the housing crisis during an informative session at SV@Home. Over three months, Maren immersed herself in SV@Home’s efforts to achieve Housing Justice for All. Her enterprising spirit helped expand the capacity of many of us who worked with her during her time here. We trust that Maren’s expanded knowledge of housing justice issues will serve her well when she returns to Wales (UK) and continues her studies in Social Policy at Bangor University. Please join us at SV@Home to congratulate Maren on completing this part of her journey and wish her continued success.
Aurion Wiley-Green, Housing Policy Intern at SV@Home, presents her “Brick-by-Brick” plan to prepare future housing and social justice students with the real-work experience needed to further their careers. Aurion impressed us at SV@Home with her ability to distill and codify a vision of supplying affordable housing-related organizations with a pipeline of passionate and eager advocates ready to carry on the work of creating equitable and resilient communities throughout Silicon Valley. Join us in congratulating Aurion for completing her internship and successfully leveraging her housing experience to earn a planning internship with the City of San Francisco’s Planning Department. We know her sincere drive for social justice and equity will continue to create an impact.
