Last month, we held Day 3 (the third brick) of our Brick by Brick (BXB) Fellowship and we’re already heading into Day 4! This November, the Brick by Brick Fellows met at Destination:Home’s new office, part of the new affordable homes of PATH Villas at 4th Apartments. We had the privilege of having two special guests lead the fellows, they were: Jessica Graham, Founder of J Graham Consulting and David Low, Senior Director of Public Policy, Destination:Home.
Last month, we gathered for Day 3 of our Brick by Brick (BXB) Fellowship—and as we head into our next session, the momentum continues. Fellows convened at Destination:Home’s new office, located within PATH Villas at 4th Apartments, a newly developed affordable housing community in San José.
We were grateful to welcome two guest leaders who guided the Fellows through a full day of leadership development and policy advocacy focused on ending homelessness in Silicon Valley:
- Jessica Graham, Founder, J Graham Consulting
- David Low, Senior Director of Public Policy, Destination:Home
Jessica Graham opened the day with two reflective self-assessments—The Six Types of Working Genius and Positive Intelligence’s Saboteurs. Through small-group discussions and interactive activities, Fellows explored their results to better understand their strengths, growth areas, and work styles. The session centered on building self-awareness, collaborating effectively with teams, and sustaining meaningful careers without burnout.
David Low led a deep dive into the state of homelessness in our region and the policy landscape shaping solutions. Fellows examined current data, key players, partnerships, and strategies, then applied their learning through a hands-on policy analysis exercise. Working in groups, they reviewed statewide housing legislation and discussed the tradeoffs, potential improvements, and positions they might take as advocates. Their insights were so sharp that Low noted the analysis mirrored conversations happening among policymakers and advocates in real time.
The day concluded with guided self-care practices and continued discussion from our book club, The Four Pivots by Dr. Shawn Ginwright, reinforcing the connection between personal sustainability and systems change.
Looking ahead, our next session will feature a leadership development training led by SV@Home’s Executive Director Regina Celestin Williams and Deputy Director of Strategy Joshua Ishimatsu, alongside a session on affordable housing preservation and tenant protections facilitated by Emily Ann Ramos.
