Getting Inclusionary Housing Right

JOIN US VIRTUALLY ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24TH 12PM

Cities across Santa Clara County are considering this powerful tool to build more new affordable homes without subsidy.

But done wrong it can fall short, or even stop the development of new homes in its tracks. Learn how it works, and how to get it right!

Many of our local cities are joining forces right now in a shared nexus study, the wonky and in-depth analysis that assesses the feasibility of local residential development and the potential for developers of market-rate housing to add a share of affordable homes to their buildings.

If cities require too few affordable homes or affordability that’s too shallow, they leave public benefits on the table. Too much, and developers can’t build any housing at all.

Come hear about local cities that are getting it right: successfully using inclusionary housing policies to achieve mixed-income communities, generate funding to subsidize deeper levels of affordability, and gain valuable land for affordable homes!

We are proud to present the first in our series of hearing directly from candidates as they make their case for why they will be the pro-housing Governor we need in California. Join us for our inaugural event in this exclusive series on April 16th in San Francisco, featuring Toni Atkins in conversation with YIMBY Action Executive Director Laura Foote.

California has a huge Governor’s race in 2026 that will have a major impact on the future of housing in our state. Our housing shortage continues to be one of the top issues we face. With Rob Bonta declining to run, many YIMBYs are now wondering, who will pick up the pro-housing mantle and lead on this crucial issue?

What are her major housing accomplishments from her time in the Assembly and State Senate previously? What are her plans for the future of California? How will she meet this moment and lead on housing when we desperately need it?

When:
April 16th
5:00PM - 7:00PM
