On January 22nd, the Affordable Housing Bond Act of 2026 passed out of the Senate Appropriations Committee. SB 417 (Cabaldon)was approved by a vote of 5-2. Following three readings in rapid succession on the Senate Floor, where an urgency clause was adopted, it passed 30-9 out of the Senate and on to the Assembly, bringing it one step closer to appearing on the November 2026 ballot.

The 2026 Affordable Housing Bond Act would place a $10 billion affordable housing bond measure before voters in 2026 and provide communities across the state with a stable source of funding for affordable housing production, preservation, and first time home-buyer programs.
