On January 29th, SV@Home celebrated alongside many community members, partners, and leadership the groundbreaking of La Placita—a powerful moment for East San José and a long-held community vision finally taking physical shape. We stood together on the future site, surrounded by the people who made this possible, it was impossible not to feel the momentum behind what’s coming.

La Placita will transform a long-neglected building across from Mexican Heritage Plaza into a vibrant cultural hub with space for arts, wellness, food, and care—built by and for the community. This is a huge accomplishment for East San José, and a reminder that community-led development is not only possible, it’s exactly what we need more of everywhere.
