Getting Inclusionary Housing Right

JOIN US VIRTUALLY ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24TH 12PM

Cities across Santa Clara County are considering this powerful tool to build more new affordable homes without subsidy.

But done wrong it can fall short, or even stop the development of new homes in its tracks. Learn how it works, and how to get it right!

Many of our local cities are joining forces right now in a shared nexus study, the wonky and in-depth analysis that assesses the feasibility of local residential development and the potential for developers of market-rate housing to add a share of affordable homes to their buildings.

If cities require too few affordable homes or affordability that’s too shallow, they leave public benefits on the table. Too much, and developers can’t build any housing at all.

Come hear about local cities that are getting it right: successfully using inclusionary housing policies to achieve mixed-income communities, generate funding to subsidize deeper levels of affordability, and gain valuable land for affordable homes!

Learn more and show your support for this SV@Home-endorsed affordable housing development! Located at 2920 and 2928 Alum Rock Avenue in San Jose, this 100% affordable project proposed by Charities Housing is in the entitlement process, and hopes to bring 103 homes to Alum Rock.

The site is located on the VTA’s Alum Rock BRT line and just a 5-minute walk to the Alum Rock & Capital Light Rail stop. The surrounding neighborhood has a library as well as a variety of restaurants and shops, providing easy access to amenities within walking distance for future residents.

This housing development will offer a mix of studios to 3 bedroom apartments that will soften San Jose’s housing crisis by providing deep levels of affordability for families, with home affordability ranging from 30% to 50% of the Area Median Income (AMI).

Marvel Ang from Charities Housing will do a presentation on plans for the Affordable Housing complex with Q&A.
