Fair Rents, Fair Bills: Understanding Rent & Utility Regulations

JOIN US VIRTUALLY ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 17TH 12PM

Join us for a learning session about San José’s Rent Stabilization Program and possible updates to the city’s rules on how utilities are billed in rental housing (known as Ratio Utility Billing Services, or RUBS).

We’ll break down:

  • What rent stabilization means
  • How RUBS works
  • And what these proposed changes could mean for renters and housing providers

You’ll also learn how to share your feedback and get involved as the city considers these updates and how it can impact you.

Sacramento Councilmember Katie Valenzuela knows what it takes to build housing in her city.

With Sacramento as the first to earn the state’s Pro-housing Designation, Councilmember Valenzuela understands the necessity of creative housing solutions, and on August 17th, we’ll explore how those lessons apply to local governments in Southern California. Whether it be the waiving of fees for affordable housing developers, to allowing by-right construction in commercial corridors, Councilmember Valenzuela’s efforts on the council reflect a strong commitment to ending homelessness and building housing within the city of Sacramento. As the only renter on the city council, she also understands the need for tenant protections during these trying times.

Join us on August 17th at 2 PM as we learn what it takes to run a “pro-housing” city and what we can learn for our own advocacy for pro-housing policies on the local level.

Speakers Include:

  • Sacramento City Councilmember Katie Valenzuela
  • Moderated by Monica Mejia, SCANPH Board Member and Executive Director of East Los Angeles Community Corporation
