Getting Inclusionary Housing Right

JOIN US VIRTUALLY ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24TH 12PM

Cities across Santa Clara County are considering this powerful tool to build more new affordable homes without subsidy.

But done wrong it can fall short, or even stop the development of new homes in its tracks. Learn how it works, and how to get it right!

Many of our local cities are joining forces right now in a shared nexus study, the wonky and in-depth analysis that assesses the feasibility of local residential development and the potential for developers of market-rate housing to add a share of affordable homes to their buildings.

If cities require too few affordable homes or affordability that’s too shallow, they leave public benefits on the table. Too much, and developers can’t build any housing at all.

Come hear about local cities that are getting it right: successfully using inclusionary housing policies to achieve mixed-income communities, generate funding to subsidize deeper levels of affordability, and gain valuable land for affordable homes!

SV@Home invites you to the September Silicon Valley Housing Action Coalition (HAC) monthly brownbag event, featuring a discussion on supporting the Blossom Hill Measure A development, which will providing much-needed homes for our neighbors who are experiencing homelessness as well as low-income housing for seniors. We will have two special guests from Charities Housing, a non-profit affordable housing developer working to provide homes for our most vulnerable neighbors:

  • Hai Nguyen, Project Manager, Charities Housing

  • Kathy Robinson, Director of Housing Development, Charities Housing

The HAC is a monthly, informal brownbag discussion convening Housers to engage on hot housing topics. Every month, we select a topic or current event, bring in an expert to give a brief presentation, and then open up the discussion to ask questions, float new ideas, and identify potential areas for shared action. We want your feedback and will be looking to participants to recommend future topics you want to see addressed.

Our goal is to create a space where Housers, community leaders, and newcomers alike can chat with their peers over lunch in a relaxed environment and convert your energy and expertise into advocacy opportunities! All are welcome.

So join SV@Home and fellow Housers for an engaging discussion that you can put immediately into advocacy action!
