Join us for a learning session about San José’s Rent Stabilization Program and possible updates to the city’s rules on how utilities are billed in rental housing (known as Ratio Utility Billing Services, or RUBS).

We’ll break down:

  • What rent stabilization means
  • How RUBS works
  • And what these proposed changes could mean for renters and housing providers

You’ll also learn how to share your feedback and get involved as the city considers these updates and how it can impact you.

How can housing experts and health professionals work together to advocate for equitable housing policies?

Kiana Bess, Anthony Nardone, and Angela Jenkins will join us as we explore how housing policies impact our health and health inequities. We will also discuss how housing and health advocates and professionals can work together to support equitable housing policies.

Kiana Bess is a Doctoral Student at the University of Michigan in the Department of Health Behavior Health Education in the School of Public Health. Broadly, her research focuses on examining the structural and social determinant of health pathways, such as housing, that influence child and adolescent health outcomes.

Anthony Nardone is a Medical Student in the UC Berkley-UCSF Joint Medical Program. His research has focused on social determinants of health, environmental health, and health equity. He recently examined the associations between historical redlining and health outcomes today.

Angela Jenkins has been a leader at Kaiser Permanente for 20 years. She is currently the Senior Director of Community Health Strategy and Operations for Kaiser Permanente’s implementing regional and national efforts that address equity, social justice, policy, and systems change initiatives. Angela also developed the Homelessness and Housing Strategy in the Northern California region.
