The Housing Needs of Undocumented Residents

JOIN US VIRTUALLY ON FRIDAY, JULY 25TH 12PM

Undocumented immigrants face unique and often invisible barriers to housing—exclusion from federal programs, fear of retaliation, and discriminatory screening practices.

Join us for a timely conversation on how we can break down these barriers and advance housing solutions that include everyone—regardless of immigration status.

We’ll explore:
– Why undocumented immigrants are excluded from key housing programs
– How fear and discrimination drive housing instability
– Local policies and community-based models creating real change

We champion community leadership through mutual support and capacity building. We work to support emerging leaders in diverse communities because we believe that we are better together — that no one accomplishes anything by themselves. And because we believe that housing justice requires the leadership of people who have been historically marginalized, we seek to uplift community leaders and strengthen BIPOC-led organizations to drive housing justice, shape their communities, and transform representation in housing advocacy.

SV@Home runs several programs to support and build capacity for individuals and organizations to advance their leadership in the affordable housing and community development fields.  Read more about each program by clicking on the links below.

Brick by Brick Institute

SV@Home launched the Brick by Brick Institute in 2025, offering a suite of programs in policy advocacy education and action, leadership development, and capacity building. The Brick by Brick Institute includes internships and fellowship programs.

Civic Leadership Program

The SV@Home Action Fund’s Civic Leadership Program is a leadership development program designed to encourage and empower community members who already demonstrate commitment to housing, equity, and community to take active roles in furthering housing justice locally.

Community Roots Collaborative

Together with our local partners, SV@Home formed the Community Roots Collaborative (CRC) in 2024 to spur community-based development in Santa Clara County. Given that there are no community development corporations in our region, our goal with the CRC is to encourage, seed, and grow CDCs in our region by providing a cohort of partners exposure and education of the existing landscape of affordable housing and community development throughout the Bay Area.
