On Monday the 24th, an enthusiastic crowd joined San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo at the Olinder Community Center, located adjacent to Olinder Elementary School, to formally launch the Measure V campaign. For those of you who missed the event, you can check out the highlights here.

The Mayor engaged the crowd, which heartily agreed with his cheer that, “We want a San Jose that has room for all of us!”

The mayor was followed by community leaders including Silicon Valley at Home Executive Director Leslye Corsigilia, representatives from Veterans Voices of Santa Clara County, Destination Home, and a teacher from the San Jose Unified School District (SJUSD).

Measure V is a $450 million bond measure that will fund housing that is affordable to working families, seniors, veterans, students, teachers, nurses, the homeless, and others who struggle with the high cost of living in Silicon Valley.

The $450 million will be targeted as follows:

  • $150 million for households making less than 30% of Area Median Income (AMI), including homeless families and individuals, seniors on fixed incomes, and people with disabilities
  • $225 million for households earning between 30 and 80% of area median income, including nurses, paramedics, and other working households
  • $75 million for households earning between 80-120% of median income, including teachers and public safety workers,

In Santa Clara County, median income for a one-person household is $87,650; for a four person household it is $125,200.

The initiative requires a two-thirds supermajority vote to pass in November, so we need everyone to chip in with support to ensure its victory.

In addition to voting YES on Measure V, talking to friends and family, and following the campaign on social media, you can help secure its passage by volunteering. Here are current opportunities!
