Tasman East Update: Community Meeting and Development Progress

On September 12th, Related Santa Clara hosted a vibrant community meeting to update residents on the transformative journey of the Tasman East neighborhood. Attendees learned about exciting milestones, including the projected completion of over 2,000 new residences and more than 25,000 square feet of neighborhood-serving retail by 2025—an ambitious step towards creating a thriving community.

The Tasman East Specific Plan, adopted by the Santa Clara City Council in November 2018, envisions the redevelopment of this 45-acre industrial area into a lively, high-density, transit-oriented urban neighborhood. The plan outlines the development of up to 4,500 new homes, with an additional proposed 1,500 units through a Specific Plan Amendment. This revitalization will include various housing types, retail spaces, and public amenities designed to foster walkability and connectivity. Residents will benefit from easy access to regional heavy-rail and light-rail systems and scenic pathways along the Guadalupe River Trail, making sustainable living a reality and ensuring convenient routes to downtown San Jose.

Recent updates showcase Ensemble Investments’ progress on AVE Santa Clara, an eight-story residential mid-rise featuring over 300 homes, slated to open in January 2025. This project will provide a mix of traditional rentals and flexible lease options, catering to various resident needs. Affordable housing is also a cornerstone of the Tasman East vision, with over 300 affordable units included in the plan. This includes two fully affordable projects: 2302/2310 Calle Del Mundo by Ensemble, now open and offering 150 affordable units, and 2233 Calle Del Mundo by St. Anton, which will provide 195 affordable units. Designed to support residents with incomes between 50-80% AMI, these developments play a crucial role in helping the city meet its Regional Housing Needs Allocation (RHNA) obligations while fostering an inclusive and welcoming community within Tasman East.
