Deep Dive on Affordable Housing:

A How-To Guide for Advocates

What does affordable housing mean, and how  is it created? How do housing advocates help support the process?

For Affordable Housing Month we will start with an overview of what “affordable housing” means – the many shapes and forms, and the different values and impact of each. We will then open the door on how the process really works, and how the role of funding shapes what gets built.

These  are two of the many questions this new series of events will address to empower advocates on how to engage and advance our cause.

Policy In Action: Local Elections and Legislative Update, SV@Home Action Fund

The SV@Home Action Fund works to advance effective housing policy both locally and in Sacramento. Join this meeting to hear updates on both of those fronts. Action Fund Board Chair Candice Gonzalez will moderate the discussion, including attendee questions.

In advance of the June 7th Primary Election, the SV@Home Action Fund circulated housing-focused questionnaires to local candidates, and organized a series of candidate forums. The Community Engagement Senior Associate, Cory Wolbach, will summarize what we’ve discovered, and how you can learn more about where candidates stand on housing and homelessness.

AHM Strive to End Homelessness

One of the most pressing housing issues in Santa Clara County is the effort to provide permanent homes to our neighbors who are experiencing homelessness. This Affordable Housing Month, there are a wide variety of educational events on several aspects of our homelessness crisis and the solutions that are getting people housed.

Check out the below events for opportunities to learn about the Community Plan to End Homelessness and Measure A, engage with the root causes of homelessness and those with lived experience, and even go on tours of permanent supportive housing developments. There will also be opportunities to get more involved and take action, including by participating in Destination: Home’s Housing Ready Communities network.

We hope you will join us in the County-wide effort to end homelessness and house our unhoused neighbors throughout May.
