SV@Home joined Eden Housing, the County of Santa Clara, and community partners to celebrate the groundbreaking of East Santa Clara Senior, bringing 68 new affordable homes for seniors to San Jose.
On August 6, SV@Home joined Eden Housing, the County of Santa Clara, and community partners to celebrate the groundbreaking of East Santa Clara Senior, a new affordable housing community at 700 E. St. John Street in San Jose. The project marks an important step forward for the larger East Santa Clara Master Plan, transforming public land into much needed affordable homes for seniors in our community.
East Santa Clara Senior will provide 68 homes for seniors, including 47 affordable homes for households earning up to 60% of Area Median Income (AMI), 20 Permanent Supportive Housing units for seniors who have experienced homelessness, and one manager’s unit. The project will also preserve a piece of San Jose’s history by restoring Building 800 (formerly home to IBM’s first West Coast manufacturing plant) and incorporating it as community space for residents and the public.
Congratulations to Eden Housing on reaching this important milestone, and thank you to the County of Santa Clara, City of San Jose, Santa Clara County Housing Authority, and the many partners whose collaboration and investment made this project possible. We look forward to watching East Santa Clara Senior take shape and to seeing more projects like it bring safe, stable, and affordable homes to communities throughout Santa Clara County.
