This workshop will feature resident leaders sharing how their community organized to advocate for greater tenant rights and fairer living conditions at a low-income apartment complex in East San Jose. This is a story of how neighbors united with promotoras, local community organizations and government allies; how they learned about their rights, and took collective action through community organizing, outreach, and building collaboration. The speakers will also share their experience navigating the TEFRA process to accomplish long-term building improvements for residents, and taking on leadership roles within the East San Jose PEACE Partnership. Their determination led to meaningful, positive outcomes and strengthened their community’s voice.
This event is a part of Affordable Housing Month 2026.
