Join Mercy Housing California, Abode Communities, and the County Office of Supportive Housing for a guided tour of The Acacia, an innovative educator workforce housing community in Palo Alto developed through a strong public-private partnership.
This event will showcase a housing model designed to address the growing affordability challenges faced by teachers and school staff in high-cost communities. Developed on County-owned land through a long-term ground lease, The Acacia delivers 110 affordable homes for educators earning between 60% and 140% of Area Median Income—helping stabilize the local workforce and strengthen community continuity.
Participants will hear directly from project partners about how collaboration between the County of Santa Clara, local school districts, the City of Palo Alto, and private philanthropy made this development possible.
The tour will include:
– A walkthrough of residential units and shared community spaces
– Overview of the project’s innovative funding structure, which does not rely on Low-Income Housing Tax Credits
– Discussion on how cross-sector partnerships can deliver long-term housing solutions for essential workers
– Reflections on lessons learned
This event is a part of Affordable Housing Month 2026.
