The Santa Clara City Council approved the final funding and operations agreement for the Santa Clara Family Community, marking a major milestone for a long-awaited interim housing project serving families experiencing homelessness. The Homekey funded project will provide safe, supportive housing while helping families transition to permanent homes.
After years of planning, partnership, and community engagement, the Santa Clara City Council unanimously approved the final funding and operations agreement for the Santa Clara Family Community during its July 14th council meeting. The project will transform a County owned site at Benton Street and Lawrence Expressway into an interim housing community with 30 homes and on-site supportive services for families experiencing homelessness. The Council’s action marks a major milestone, bringing the project one step closer to welcoming families into safe, stable housing.
The Santa Clara Family Community represents years of collaboration among the City of Santa Clara, Santa Clara County, LifeMoves, and community members. Throughout the planning process, the project has evolved in response to public feedback while remaining focused on its core mission: helping families move from homelessness to permanent housing. In addition to temporary homes, the community will include spaces for children to learn and play, gathering areas for families, and supportive services designed to help residents transition into permanent homes. At a time when more families are struggling to find affordable housing, investments like these provide both immediate support and a pathway to long term success.
