Every City in California is required by law to actively undo the harm caused by housing discrimination. They have to take real steps to undo segregation and open up access to good schools, jobs, transit, and healthy neighborhoods. That duty is called Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing.
It’s one of the strongest tools we have. And it works better when residents know it exists and show up to hold their cities to it.
SV@Home has partnered with East Bay Housing Organizations, Generation Housing, and Housing Leadership Council of San Mateo County to create Understanding AFFH, a free, three-part curriculum for anyone who wants to push for fairer housing in their community.
The curriculum covers:
- Segregation, Exclusion, and Discrimination in Housing: Who gets to call the Bay Area home?
- State and Federal Fair Housing Policies: What current government policies are meant to address inequity in housing?
- Where Do We Go From Here?: How far has AFFH policy gotten us, and what more can neighbors do to realize the promise of fair housing in our communities?
